SSgt Edward W. Hood

Edward W. Hood is an Airman, Husband, Father, and Entrepreneur, Tallahassee, Florida. He is currently serving as the Adjutant to the Commander of Sauls-Bridges Post 13 American Legion, Department of Florida. He is also the Director of the Commanders Coalition.  Additionally, Edward Hood is a member of the following organizations: Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Sons of Union Civil War Veterans, Sons of the American Legion, Air & Space Forces Association.


Edward's professional life began at just 15 years old when he served in the Unit FL-933 Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC). As a distinguished member of this unit, he contributed significantly to the AFJROTC program. His notable roles included serving as a member of the Color Guard and assuming the position of Model Rocketry Team Commander. Throughout his tenure in AFJROTC, he actively participated in various key events, leaving a lasting impact on both his unit and the community. Notably, he played a pivotal role in presenting the colors during a momentous occasion—the dedication of a Blue Star Memorial Highway Marker in Madison, FL on April 8th 2000.



He enlisted into the United States Air Force on May 4th 2004.


While assigned to the 331st Training Squadron, Flight 536, Lackland Air Force Base, his integrity was noted by his Military Training Instructor, and he was chosen to serve as the Flight Office Technician. This would inspire him to lead other Airman at his next duty station.



On June 2004, Airman First Class (A1C) Hood arrived at Keesler Air Force base where he would spend the next 8 months of his life learning electronics theory and Ground Radio Communications. Over those months of training, A1C Hood not only focused on his training, he volunteered to serve his fellow students as an Airman Leader.

Upon graduating technical training, he headed for his 1st assignment at Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico. Edward was assigned to Holloman AFB from February 2005 until March 2007. During his tour at Holloman, he was assigned to the 49th Communications Squadron and also served on the base Honor Guard.



While he was stationed at Holloman, Airman Hood deployed to Camp As Sayliyah, Qatar to provide the Qatari government with emergency communications support during the 2006 Doha Asian Games.

For his service, Senior Airman Hood was awarded the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Service Medal. Upon his return to Holloman Air Force Base, Senior Airman Hood finished his term of service with the base honor guard and applied to transfer to Moody Air Force Base.


Not soon after arriving to Moody Air Force Base, SrA Hood volunteered and was selected to serve on the Moody Base Honor Guard. The advanced training he received at Holloman quickly became apparent and he was honored to be a 2007 Honor Guardsman of the Quarter.

Edward was assigned to Moody Air Force Base from 2007 until 2010. During that assignment, he was assigned to the 23rd Communications Squadron where deployed in support of Combined Joint Task Force-- Horn of Africa and the Counter Insurgency Training Center, Kabul Afghanistan.
